Dry Fly Fishing At Its Best! We boast one of the largest remaining populations of native Westslope cutthroat trout along with other fish like the rainbow trout and mountain whitefish. Glacier Anglers would love to custom design a trip for you and your friends that would best suit your needs and time and still take advantage of the best river fishing in the Glacier National Park area. We can design trips for all levels of fishing ability, from beginning instructional to the seasoned fly fisherman. All of our guides are experienced, knowledgeable, professionals licensed with the State of Montana and share the passion for fishing that only other fisherman can understand.

The rivers we fish are the North and Middle Forks of the Flathead River. Both boast large populations of trout and are considered catch and release. The North Fork is famous for its spectacular views, crystal clear waters and an abundance and variety of wildlife. With its headwaters starting in Canada, the North Fork flows south, forming the western boundary of Glacier National Park. The North Fork provides prime habitat for the fish and invites you to drop your line in a variety of water conditions, be it drifting a fly across a deep slow moving pool or laying your line out along the tail of a fast moving riffle. The Middle Fork of the Flathead River starts in the heart of the Bob Marshall-Great Bear Wilderness Complex and flows northwesterly until it reaches the southern boundary of Glacier National Park. While being renowned for its exciting whitewater, the Middle Fork also boasts of excellent fishing, spectacular beauty and abundant wildlife. If you are looking for the one wilderness-fishing trip that offers it all, the upper 32 miles of the Middle Fork in the great bear wilderness is it.

After an exciting day of fishing, as your guide is preparing a hearty gourmet dinner, you will have the opportunity to sit around the campfire and relax and tell a few tales or, if your arm isn't worn out from casting all day, wander down to the bank for a little evening fishing. If the day's events, the wholesome dinner and the relaxing campfire haven't tired you out yet, the soothing murmur of the river flowing by camp will surely lull you to sleep.

We do not design these trips to have a rigid structure, but rather try to design them to best suit your needs and desires. Our goal is simple: to give you the best fishing trip possible. We like to keep these trips small, but always welcome and can accommodate groups. With our friendly and knowledgeable guides you will be able to polish your fishing techniques and maybe even learn a few new tricks and still have plenty of time to kick back and relax, read, or take some pictures of the best Montana has to offer.

Fly Fishing: We recommend a 5 weight/9 foot rod or smaller with a weight forward floating line, several leaders (4x or 5x leaders work well), and a good variety of western trout patterns including the Sofa Pillow stone, red and yellow Humpies, Royal Wulff, caddis patterns (especially the Elk Hair), Parachute Adams and Stimulators. Flies can be purchased at Glacier Outdoor Center and the fly shop staff can recommend the hot ones. Although a good portion of the fishing is from a boat, you may want to throw in your waders. If you have questions on what to bring or if you would rather wait to pick up your equipment until you arrive in Montana, we have a full service fly shop to assist you.

Note: When planning your trip, keep in mind that both of these rivers are Wild and Scenic. That means they are not dam controlled and the river levels depend upon the previous winter's snow pack and rainfall. Because of this, the fishing usually doesn't start until after spring runoff and the water has cleared up, which is normally late June or early July. From July through October the fishing is exceptional. Also, when we run these trips we operate on a 2 to 1 basis: 2 fishermen and 1 guide per boat. All of our guides will have a good supply of flies, tippet and quality rods and reels. If you use their equipment, it is your responsibility to reimburse them if you break or lose any of their equipment, as most of them provide this service out of their own pocket. If you have your own gear, we recommend you bring it. If you have questions or are looking to add a few items to your collection or just get started our fly shop staff can assist you.
